An initiative of the Housing Partnership of Chester County.  Our Credit and Foreclosure Counseling program is funded entirely by grants and
donations. In 2001, HPCC received a grant of $10,000 from the United Way of Chester County to begin the program. In January 2005, HPCC was
awarded $20,000 by the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation for the purpose of adding a full time credit counselor to the staff. Several local
banks have also contributed through our annual fundraising campaign.
The Credit Counseling Program provides, free of charge, counseling to
individuals who are having credit problems. Our organization works with
applicants to remedy and prevent future credit problems, develop a
household budget and set a time frame in which the results would be
achieved. Regular meetings are scheduled to ensure all steps are being
followed and progress is being made to move you towards home ownership.
Tips from the Credit Counselor
Taking a closer look at your money...
Home Buyers:
  1. You must have a budget. We are not the Trumps.
Therefore, we must spend like the Smiths.
  2. Buy what you need, not what you want.
  3. Have a yard sale. Get a return on your investment by
selling items you have made or no longer need.
  4. You should never have more than 2 major credit cards.
  5. Plan your spending. Avoid frequent use of ATM/Debit
    cards.
Homeowners:
  1. Never do business with lenders who initiate contact with
    you.
  2. Your home is your greatest investment. Get a home
inspection at least every 15 years.
  3. Shop around before refinancing. Go online to www.
    bankrate.com.
  4. The equity in your home is like an emergency savings,
use it sparingly, and pay it back.
  5. For mortgage delinquency, go online to www.hemap.org.
In order to protect the privacy of our clients, an appointment is
required to enter our office. All applications must be mailed or
deposited in the lock box at the front door. There are no
exceptions! Thank you.
